Tornado Watch in effect; gusty winds, storms expected across Middle Tennessee this evening.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for much of Middle and Western Tennessee through 3 a.m. Tuesday including the following counties:

BEDFORD-BENTON-CANNON-CARROLL-CHEATHAM-CHESTER-COFFEE-CROCKETT-DAVIDSON
DECATUR-DICKSON-FAYETTE-GIBSON-GILES-HARDEMAN-HARDIN-HAYWOOD-HENDERSON
HENRY-HICKMANHOUSTON-HUMPHREYS-LAWRENCE-LEWIS-MACON-MADISON-MARSHALL
MAURY-MCNAIRY-MONTGOMERY-PERRY-ROBERTSON-RUTHERFORD-SHELBY-SMITH-STEWART
SUMNER-TIPTON-TROUSDALE-WAYNE-WEAKLEY-WILLIAMSON-WILSON

A strong cold front will race across Middle Tennessee later tonight. Winds will increase considerably ahead of the cold front. Wind gusts to 35 mph can be expected during the evening, mainly in areas west of the Cumberland Plateau. Winds will diminish somewhat overnight after the cold front passes. You are urged to secure loose outdoor objects in anticipation of the expected increase in winds.

There is an enhanced risk (level 3 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms across southern Middle Tennessee tonight. There is a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms across
northern Middle Tennessee tonight.

This hazardous weather outlook for portions of Middle Tennessee will affect the following counties later today:

Coffee-Warren-Grundy-Van Buren-Wayne-Lawrence-Giles

 

A line of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms is expected to race across Middle Tennessee from Monday evening into early Tuesday morning. Storms within the line will be capable of producing damaging winds and a few tornadoes. Locally heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding will also be possible in a few areas.

As a cold front sweeps across the region Tuesday through Saturday in the wake of these storms, low temperatures are possible on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

 

Spotter activation is requested from this evening through early Tuesday morning.
