Spooktacular Halloween events planned for Spring Hill community

SPRING HILL: Halloween may be over a month and a half away, but Spring Hill is already making plans for the year’s spooky season.

Approval is being sought for the 10th annual Grey Ghost 5K at Oaklawn Plantation. A second request would bring a Halloween-themed Hot Air Balloon event to the midstate at the Tennessee Children’s Home.

Planas are still being finalized for the first Spring Hill Hot Air Balloon Spooktacular which will feature 10-20 balloons, along with bounce houses, craft vendors, food trucks and more in a 3-7 p.m. event.

A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the Children’s Home.

The Grey Ghost 5k will once again take place at the historic Oaklawn Plantation from 7-11:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, and is now open for registration. Two-thousand runners are expected to participate. Age categories for the main 5k race will be broken into increments of five, such as ages 20-24, 45-49 and so on.

The Goblin Gallop will return to Oaklawn for children in grades 2nd-5th, and is approximately 1k in length. A  .5k race for kindergartners and 1st graders, with a kids zone featuring free inflatables and carnival-style games, is also planned.

A portion of proceeds from The Grey Ghost 5k will benefit local school physical education departments.

Registration for the 5k is $25 until Friday; prices will increase until the day of the race. The Goblin Gallop and .5k races are $8 for participants, with prices increasing after Friday as well. Runners can sign up by logging onto

Shining Light Gymnastics, located at 4008 Parkfield Loop North, will host a pre-registration night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, which will include access to the facility’s new obstacle course.
