Heavy rain forecast; flash flood watch issued

MIDDLE TENNESSEE: The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch and a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of Middle Tennessee.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect across Middle Tennessee from noon today until noon Saturday. Heavy rainfall is expected to begin by this afternoon, and will continue through tonight and into Saturday. A total of 2 to 4 inches of rain is anticipated with locally higher amounts possible.

These rains will begin Friday afternoon,  falling on grounds that are already fairly saturated which may lead to flash flooding. If you are planning to travel around the MidState today and Saturday, stay tuned to a reliable source of weather information, and listen for any warnings that may be issued.

The Flash Flood Watch will continue until noon on Saturday. Rain will taper off in the morning and early afternoon, but flooding potential will continue during the morning hours Saturday. Rapid rises along creeks and streams are possible. Ditches and drainage areas could overflow. Typically flood-prone areas are highly susceptible to flooding. If you encounter any flooded roads, remember to turn around don`t drown.

Spotter activation may be needed later today into tonight for flash flooding concerns.
